I wish that you could see yourself
The way that I see you.
For then I think you'd understand,
You're a blessing through and through.
If I could take these eyes of mine
And put them on your face,
Perhaps you just might finally see
You're a treasure in this place.
Now I know you're going to say
I've not known you very long,
And this estimate of mine may be
More than just a little wrong.
But there are things that time won't change,
Because truth never lies,
And I've seen enough in these short weeks
To "measure up your size".
Although I see you standing back
In the shadows lost, once more
While other brighter shining lights
Seem to have the best rapport.
There's strength in you I've come to see,
With purpose and a plan.
I know you want to leave your mark –
Make the most of your life span.
Those dreams you have are heaven sent,
Of this I have no doubt,
The God who birthed them in your heart
Will help you live them out.
So dear friend, don't look around,
And think how you should be
For comparison like that will
Only cause anxiety!
You are unique, hand made by God,
For this time and for this place,
With every good thing that you need
To speed you on your race.
Each time I look at you I feel
A wave rise in my heart,
Of joyous expectation in
Your future as it starts.
Now I don't have all the pieces,
I don't even have a few,
But the way ahead is looking clear
For someone just like you!
So take firm hold of what you have
And trust God for the rest,
Then understand deep in your soul –
For you, He wants the best.
I wish that you could see yourself
The way that I see you.
